Lundin Energy AB wanted to streamline its communications and enhance its collaboration capabilities to improve the user experience and support rapid growth through acquisition.

Lundin Energy is a leading oil and gas upstream exploration and production company with a focus on operations in Norway. It aims to operate in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for the long-term benefit of its shareholders and society. As an example of this commitment: in April 2021 Lundin Energy sold the very first cargo of certified carbon neutrally produced Edvard Grieg crude oil, the first such cargo in the world to have been traded as such.

To realize these different ambitions, Lundin Energy understood that it needed to accelerate its digital transformation.

As part of its IT strategy and to significantly improve collaboration, Lundin Energy wanted to migrate from Microsoft Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams. Skype for Business is being retired at the end of July 2021, at which point it will no longer be accessible or supported. Lundin Energy chose Orange Business to implement its communications strategy based on its expertise and strong partnership with ecosystem providers such as Microsoft.

Adoption of the Orange Enterprise Voice with Direct Routing to Microsoft cloud services enabled the use of voice/telephone services integrated seamlessly into Teams. Implementation planning and execution were very smooth, resulting in a trouble-free cutover from an end-of-life VoIP service used in our corporate headquarters. We look forward to extending the scope out to our other international locations.

Streamlining communications

Orange has deployed a fully managed Microsoft Teams Enterprise Voice solution linked to Microsoft Azure cloud and voice services management. SIP trunking provides off-net calling capabilities using Business Talk over the Internet for global coverage. Orange has also integrated call recording and fax to email solutions, together with their management.

Orange Business Talk provides a global, seamless voice service, providing Lundin Energy with the ability to manage all types of calls: inbound, outbound and on-net at local and international levels. It incorporates a self-ordering and self-care portal to allow Lundin Energy to quickly set up new numbers as required.

A proof of concept (PoC) was initially set up for four users with the existing solution in the background to ensure a smooth migration and mitigate any business downtime. The solution has now been rolled out to 100 employees at Lundin Energy’s Geneva office with a view to bringing a total of 800 global users on board.

A single collaboration interface

Orange is providing Lundin Energy with a high-quality, managed service that has allowed it to directly implement Microsoft Teams with voice capabilities for its users. This has streamlined its communications, providing it with a single interface for a full set of collaboration and voice features including chat and group-based discussions. At the same time, it has freed up the company’s IT team to focus on strategic business tasks.
