The requirement to make backlit advertising panels communicate

Mediatransports, a major player in outdoor advertising and a member of the Publicis group, markets, plans, and distributes advertising campaigns within transport networks. As the only French advertising agency dedicated to transportation, Mediatransports manages a vast network of billboards. In 2022, two mandates required them to find new technological solutions.

"With the first mandate, we had to be able to switch off our backlit billboards during certain hours at night," explains Antoine Bonhomme, Director of Operations at Mediatransports. "The second required us to be able to switch off our entire network of paper billboards."

Mediatransports has chosen Orange Business experts to deploy 4,000 smart boxes on its backlit advertising panels. The company was also convinced by the associated business application: Smart Operations, which allows easy management of its fleet.

"We were looking for a technical solution to make our old paper panels digital," recalls the Operations Director of Mediatransports. "Orange Business offered us an end-to-end solution, from manufacturing to the installation of communication boxes in the panels, to providing the Smart Operations business application. "With Smart Operations, everything becomes simpler, including referencing all installed boxes across the fleet and remotely setting on/off schedules for the panels.

And thanks to the management portal, Mediatransports" teams could monitor the boxes" appearance in real time throughout the deployment.

Time savings and energy efficiency achieved

From the moment of deployment, Antoine Bonhomme was able to measure operational gains. Everything is faster. "For example, we can instantly reconfigure all the panels from a PC during daylight saving time changes," he notes. It is also much easier to detect faults in panels that are no longer lit. "This allows us to react quickly to restore power," continues the Operations Director. And thanks to the large-scale deployment of boxes on 4,000 panels, energy savings were also quickly realized.
