Delivering certainty in a complex connected car rollout

A leading Japanese telecom provider, serving over 55 million connected vehicles worldwide, faced the challenge of enabling a seamless connected car rollout for automotive clients across Europe. The region’s complexity of dozens of networks, diverse regulatory environments, and cross-border roaming demanded a partner with local expertise, operational discipline, and the ability to meet high expectations for reliability and customer experience. The provider’s automotive clients, among the world’s most demanding brands, required a connectivity solution that would underpin not only safety and compliance, but also real-time driver services and long-term scalability. Orange Business became the trusted regional partner, working closely with the telecom provider to deliver a resilient, future-ready solution that met every milestone and established a dependable foundation for growth.

Objectives for connected mobility success

To meet the demands of automotive clients, the objectives were clear: launch seamlessly at scale across Europe, ensure resilient and future-ready connectivity, maintain operational excellence and discipline through continuous improvement.

Achieve a smooth, synchronized launch in 63 countries
Future-ready connectivity for telematics and infotainment services
Adopt a Kaizen approach for continuous improvement and standardization

Managed IoT Connectivity Advanced and Business VPN: building a reliable platform for connected vehicles

Orange Business collaborated with the telecom provider to design and implement a comprehensive connectivity and technology package. Managed IoT Connectivity Advanced ensured secure, high-performance SIM connectivity and roaming agreements, keeping vehicles seamlessly connected across borders. Business VPN provided a secure, performant backbone for cloud, voice, video, and data services. Rigorous pre-deployment testing of device control modules and centralized monitoring protected launch integrity and service quality. Dedicated support teams in both Europe and APAC enabled rapid response and smooth coordination throughout the rollout.

Tailored IT solutions, including bespoke API integrations and platform automation, enabled seamless integration with automotive client systems and supported future service expansion. The operational model mirrored the telecom provider’s Kaizen-inspired procedures, ensuring reliability, continuous improvement, and alignment with the industry's most demanding standards.

Kaizen-based continuous improvement that never closes

Orange Business mirrored the telecom provider’s operating model, with teams based in Belgium, France, the UK, and Japan, enabling global and local teaming that reduced friction and enabled faster decision-making. Flexible, region-based pricing and cost control made the solution commercially sustainable at scale, supporting multiple markets with consistent performance.

Service delivery aligned with the customer’s Kaizen and TQC principles. Instead of closing issues through a conventional service improvement plan, the teams adapted their approach to Kaizen—an open-ended, continuous improvement model. This enhanced performance and enabled rapid response when issues arose. Dedicated monitoring and support services, including Level 3 helpdesk capability, helped maintain reliability long after launch.

Future-proofing mobility: scalable expansion and next-generation service enablement

With the core connected car rollout established, Orange Business and the telecom provider are now enabling the next phase of mobility: supporting both telematics and next-generation infotainment, including bespoke API integrations aligned to the customer’s automation standards, enabling seamless operations and future service expansion. The partnership’s operational approach is designed to scale smoothly across regions and make it easier to introduce new connected services over time. Expansion is underway to additional automotive manufacturers, battery electric vehicles (EVs), B2B2C models, and new technology domains such as AI-powered mobility, aerial drones, and robotics.

Ongoing discussions and testing are focused on future services in telematics, connected navigation, and other innovative offerings. By building on the foundations of trust and operational excellence, the telecom provider can confidently support clients’ evolving needs in the years ahead.
