Next-generation gesture control
One of the hottest new technology developments will be flying off the shelves in 2013. The $70 Leap Motion device promises to revolutionize how we interact with computers by bringing accurate gesture control to the PC and a mainstream audience.
Reminiscent of functionality already enjoyed in games consoles, the small device simply plugs into a PC and allows the user to control it without touching a mouse, screen or keyboard. It would make interacting with the new Windows 8 interface much easier, for example.
But interacting with the PC is only just the start for Leap Motion, believe its developers. It has developed a software development kit (SDK) for the device and had received over 40,000 requests from developers at the end of 2012. Applications for the device range from industrial applications to hygienic kitchen computer interfaces.
