Orange Business Services unveils i-SAN, the world’s first Ethernet-managed SAN interconnection

Paris, 22 June 2007

Orange Business Services, worldwide business communications services operator and integrator, is launching i-SAN. Intended for large and medium-sized companies, i-SAN, a SAN storage systems interconnection solution, offers advantageous pricing and performance engagements enabling a Business Recovery Plan to be put in place and critical data to thus be protected.

To run their businesses properly, companies of all sizes increasingly depend on their ability to store and archive their critical data. Now, with the i-SAN solution, they can benefit from continuous data replication onto a remote back-up site, consequently avoiding any disruption to live operation in the event of an IT incident. Depending on the configuration selected, failover and business recovery on the back-up site can be carried out in a consistent manner at any time.

i-SAN includes the latest technological developments on the market - the IT replication data is carried on a MAN Ethernet network, via SAN gateways managed by Orange Business Services, with fully integrated management and administration.

With i-SAN, companies ensure business continuity through:
- optimisation of data updates and high availability storage network interconnection, whatever the distance between two computer centres (up to 1,000 km)
- data compression, terabytes are copied onto a mirror disaster recovery site (synchronously or asynchronously) at speeds ranging up to 1 Gbit/s, 2 Gbit/s or even 4 Gbit/s
- tracking of performance indicators and SAN connection loads in real time, and proactive supervision 24/7, through a secure client area
- contractual guarantees in terms of performance (low latency) and availability (up to 99.99%).

i-SAN is attractively priced, from €4,000 per month, which also enables SMEs to benefit from SAN interconnection, and encourages the boom in service continuity for such companies.

Orange Business Services is the first operator in the world to offer this innovation, which is as simple as one-stop shopping. It includes a single contract, on-site after-sales service 24/7, end-to-end supervision of the network and gateways, technical expertise on sizing and implementation, and guarantees of optimal operation.

The base of Orange Business Services outsourcing and hosting services range, i-SAN is offered either independently or as an add-on to its MAN Ethernet range, certified MEF-9 compliant by the Metro Ethernet Forum and voted “Best Ethernet Service of the Year” in 2006 and 2007.
