Orange Business Services simplifies communications infrastructure for Mondi Packaging AG

Implements Business Everywhere™ mobility solution serving 750 users worldwide

Orange Business Services has signed a managed IP networking contract worth approximately 10 million euros with Mondi Packaging AG of Austria, one of the largest producers of paper and packaging worldwide.

The new IP infrastructure enables Mondi to optimize and simplify the management of its communications infrastructure across 80 sites. The deal also includes the adoption of the award-winning Orange Business Services’ mobility solution Business Everywhere™ for its worldwide employees.

Mondi Packaging AG, part of the Anglo American Group, is a global manufacturer of paper and plastic packaging materials based in Vienna, Austria. With more than 17,000 employees spread across 112 production sites in 40-plus countries from China to Mexico, from South Africa to Norway, Mondi Packaging AG generated revenues of 2.9 billion euros in 2005.

Its aggressive growth policy through the global acquisition of additional production sites and branches has created a mixed infrastructure, especially where networks are concerned. With this in mind, Mondi Packaging AG wanted to overhaul its communications infrastructure and centralize and simplify its management and operation.

Mondi also saw the efficient integration of an increasing number of mobile employees in the IT infrastructure as a huge challenge. After carefully examining options, Mondi selected Business Everywhere™ from Orange Business Services to replace its existing remote access systems.

Business Everywhere™ will provide a mobile platform available in 150 countries for 750 employees (with an additional 100 to follow), that connects Mondi’s “business nomads” with all their business critical applications at the click of a mouse. By using Business Everywhere™, Mondi’s mobile employees will stay connected and accomplish more, regardless of location.

A part of the solution also includes a network-based Internet gateway for all locations. Orange Business Services operates the firewall for Mondi Packaging in its data center, ensuring optimum use of Internet bandwidths and changeovers to internal and external partner networks.

Roman Scarabot Müller, CTO of Mondi Packaging, who heads the project in Austria, explains: “We must continue to develop our global communications and move with the times to meet the demands of our business. ’Proactive capacity management’ at the user level ensures the best use of available bandwidths in the data network, thus maximizing efficiency through targeted bandwidth adjustment while at the same time reducing TCO.”
