Orange Business helps Dailymotion optimize live streaming for its partners

As part of its launch of thematic premium “channels” dedicated to the live streaming of sports and gaming events, Dailymotion has chosen Orange Business as technical partner for the optimization of video content for users in Europe, North America and Asia.

To enable users to watch high-quality live video content online from a lap-top, tablet or smartphone, a specialized optimization technology is required to manage the flow of data through the network. This technology is used to control traffic during large-scale audience peaks as demand fluctuates over time. The “Media Delivery” solution implemented by Orange Business and its partner Akamai uses an extensive network of servers to accelerate the distribution of video content over the internet while improving security. As a result, users benefit from improved image quality, faster access and higher download speeds.

This solution has already been successfully implemented for the 82nd edition of the “24 Hours of Le Mans” auto race, which took place in France on 14-15 June and was won this year by Audi. For this event, Dailymotion and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest set-up a specific web-TV system to enable the race to be broadcast live over the internet. Thanks to Orange Business and Akamai, more than 5.5 million people were able to follow the race live, with an audience peak of 160,000 simultaneous connections.
