network and infrastructure considerations

overcoming barriers to cloud computing

We are able to meet the security and performance requirements that you have for cloud computing.
According to independent research, the three biggest barriers to uptake of cloud computing are: security, availability and performance. We believe that our approach to cloud computing will help you overcome these barriers and enjoy secure enterprise-grade cloud computing with the end-to-end service level agreements (SLA) your business needs.
security

We have addressed your security concerns by putting the following processes and systems in place. Together they ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability (CIA) of your data and business-critical systems:
  • Infrastructure security: we have put measures in place to guarantee that the best security is in place to protect users from the outside (firewalls, IPS, etc.) and also inside (systems segregation);
  • Data lifecycle management: we have put controls in place for data creation, modification, archiving and destruction;
  • User access rights: we allow you to control who accesses what, with what level of permission;
  • Supervision and reaction to incidents: we offer proactive supervision, ITIL processes and clear escalation tables;
  • Certifications: we have earned certifications for our security and quality management, both for our network and datacenters (e.g. SAS-70 Type-II, ISO 20k, ISO 27001);
  • Private network: we offer our cloud computing services over our private networks for security and performance.

availability and performance
The availability and performance of an application can depend as much on the server hosting it as on the performance of the network between the user and that server. In cloud computing, problems due to failure or congestion of the network should not be overlooked or underestimated.

To help you overcome your application availability and  performance issues, we have combined our cloud computing portfolio with our robust and comprehensive application performance management solution. Called Business Acceleration, it addresses application availability and performance in three main ways:
  • visibility: it gives you insight into what applications run on your network and how each of them uses bandwidth. This will give you the information you need to improve application performance and availability;
  • prioritization: in case of congestion, it will allow you to prioritize business-critical applications over less critical ones. This ensures that your VPN or MPLS bandwidth is primarily used for the applications that support your business;
  • acceleration: we provide a number of different WAN optimization techniques, such as TCP acceleration, Layer 7 acceleration, compression and caching, to help you to make your applications more responsive while reducing the load on your network.
