why IPv6 ?
Today’s widely deployed Internet protocol (IPv4) relies on a limited and finite
number of unique IP addresses (4 billion); at the current utilization rate, these
addresses will run out in 2011.
A new version of the IP protocol (version 6 or v6) was created in the 1990’s
to solve this foreseen resource depletion and provide an almost infinite source
of addresses: 3.4x1038 IP addresses or 5x1028 addresses for every person on Earth.
essentially –IPv6 won't run out
the role of the World IPv6 Day
Despite the availability of IPv6 for the past decade, a smooth transition of
IPv4 to IPv6 has not occurred. The World IPv6 Day is a strong incentive to motivate
industry players to support the new protocol and to ensure their systems are prepared
for the transition. For the first time, players from all parts of the industry
will be able to work towards the common goal of enabling IPv6. The World IPv6
Day acts as well as a global scale test, and one of its goals is to expose potential
issues under controlled conditions. This is the reason
